Finalist: 2022 GTNT Group Awards – Trainee of the Year

Qualification: Certificate III in Water Industry Operations

Host Business: Power and Water, Alice Springs

When Sam was interviewed by the GTNT Group team in Alice Springs, he was keen on doing a qualification that would increase his knowledge while bettering himself. His mother and older brother both work for Power and Water Corporation and that gave him some insight into the industry.

Little did we know that we were interviewing a future star! Sam slotted in with his new team right away and has excelled in his role at the Dissolved Air Filtration Plant.

Sam was dealt a few challenges impacted by the pandemic, as well as staff shortages across the region. He took this in his stride and completed his training to a very high level as well as being able to get fast tracked due to his existing knowledge around his work. He has been awarded a permanent position with Power and Water as a service worker.

What impact did your studies/work have on your life?

Working across different disciplines in a team setting is very rewarding for Sam. He has a passion for learning and wanting to increase his knowledge and expertise, working across the reticulation and treatment teams gives him the opportunity to do so. Sam has excelled in his training and mastered the treatment processes PWC work with well before he completed his qualification. Sam’s supervisor says that he is truly an inspiration and an asset to the team.

“Power and Water is a great place to work. The people you learn from are highly skilled and passionate about making a change to the communities that they serve tirelessly. Power and Water, water services south is the place to be!!” said Sam.

Fun fact!

Sam is well acquainted with anything IT, an electracies guru of sorts! Sam has been a huge help to his more senior members that struggle with the new technology, and happily offers assistance where he can.
